Closewatch

Stop guessing whether the client read your proposal

Every proposal tool reports opens. Most of that number is link scanners, and "was it opened" was never the real question. Closewatch scores each proposal and shows its work: "forwarded to someone else", "3m 51s on pricing", "came back on a later day". The dashboard is a call list, not a stats page. Scanners are filtered out and only visible reading time counts. One link per recipient, so a second reader means it reached the person who signs. It's the PDF you already send.

I built this because of my friends who send proposals for a living. Same complaint every time: they send the PDF and then nothing happens. No idea if it was opened, no idea when to follow up, no idea what happened to it after it left their inbox. So every follow-up is a guess. Too early and you're nagging, too late and the deal went cold somewhere you couldn't see. What surprised me building it is how much of proposal tracking is wrong by default. Gmail, Outlook and Mimecast open every link you send. Tools that count those are reporting their own scanners back to you as client interest. So scanners get filtered before anything counts, and only visible reading time is measured, never wall-clock on a tab someone left open over lunch. Two things I got wrong and had to fix: The intent score divided reading time by page count. That meant an 80-page proposal needed an hour of reading before it counted as "read closely," so the signal went dead on exactly the long documents you can't eyeball yourself. The divisor is capped at 12 pages now, because the argument in a proposal lives in its first dozen. The free plan originally capped proposals you had uploaded. Someone could sign up, upload three PDFs working out what this does, share none of them, and hit a paywall having received nothing at all. The wall arrived before the value. It caps proposals actually sent now. Happy to answer anything. I'm most interested in what signals you'd want that I'm not tracking yet.

Who hunted Closewatch?

Closewatch was hunted by Carlos Soto. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
