Hi, I'm Steven, an amateur astronomer from Northern Ireland and Dad to an impatient 5 year old. I built ClearSkys after I bought my 5 year old a telescope and spent the next 2 weeks waiting for a night good enough to use it. A regular weather forecast app tells you if it'll rain but it won't tell you if the sky is actually good enough to see anything. In addition to this I found every other stargazing forecast app too data heavy with no clear answer so I built one that just says go or don't go. The underlying data is also available if you want it. ClearSkys pulls cloud cover (three layers), moon phase and altitude, wind, humidity, dew-point spread, atmospheric transparency, and jet-stream seeing for any location on Earth, then scores the night 0–100 with the best viewing window picked out hour by hour. A few things that make it different: 1. Observer profiles let you switch between visual, astrophotography, planetary, and aurora scoring. A thin cirrus layer that ruins deep-sky imaging barely matters for planetary viewing, and the score reflects that. 2. Build your own scoring profile if the presets don't match how you observe. Weight each factor however you like. 3. Twilight scoring for high-latitude summers where the sky never gets fully dark — instead of just saying "no data," we score the usable nautical twilight window with a sky-brightness penalty. 4. ISS and satellite passes, planet visibility windows, aurora alerts — all computed locally, no third-party API dependencies. It's free, no sign-up required, works as a PWA from your browser. I'd love to hear what you think — especially if you're an observer and the scores match (or don't match!) your experience. Try it: https://clearskys.app

Who hunted ClearSkys?
ClearSkys was hunted by Steven. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it.
