Cleanstep
Private step tracking. No ads. No account. No subscription.
CleanStep is a private, local-first step counter for Android. Track steps, distance, estimated calories and active time with daily, weekly, monthly, yearly and total statistics. It works offline, keeps activity data on your device and requires no account, GPS or cloud connection. No ads and no subscription — just a $1.99 / €1.99 one-time purchase.
I started building CleanStep because I was trying to walk more and got increasingly frustrated with the free step counter I was using. I just wanted to quickly see my steps, but instead I kept running into ads, prompts and things I never asked for.
Eventually I thought: why not build the simple step counter I actually want to use?
What started as a small personal Android project gradually became a full-fledged app. Most of the work ended up not being the initial coding, but testing, fixing edge cases, improving the UI, adding features, localization and eventually navigating the surprisingly complicated process of publishing a paid app.
The core idea stayed the same throughout development: keep it simple, keep the data local, and don’t annoy the user.
CleanStep is now live on Google Play, and I’m at the next stage of the project: learning how to get an unknown app from a solo developer in front of the people who might actually want it.
I’d love to hear what you think.

Who hunted Cleanstep?
Cleanstep was hunted by Marco Di Mauro. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it.
