Kjøpsvakten started from a simple frustration: buying used products online often feels like a guessing game.
Is the price actually fair? Is something important missing from the listing? Are there warning signs I should notice — and what should I ask the seller before buying?
I built Kjøpsvakten to help answer those questions. It analyzes a used-product listing, looks at the product, condition and description, compares it with relevant market data — primarily eBay for products with an international market — and turns that into a practical buying report.
The report highlights things like price level, missing information, possible risks, questions to ask the seller, and what to check before handing over the money.
Kjøpsvakten originally grew out of the Norwegian second-hand market, but I quickly realized it needed to work independently of any single marketplace. Today you can provide listing information from different marketplaces, while automatic importing is only used where approved data access is available.
One of the hardest parts has actually been price comparison. Finding listings is easy — deciding whether they are genuinely comparable is much harder. A different model, bundle, generation, condition or accessory can completely distort the result. A lot of the development has therefore gone into making Kjøpsvakten prefer saying “not enough reliable data” rather than confidently giving the wrong valuation.
Kjøpsvakten is currently free to try, and I’m still actively improving it.
