Chat Echo
Your ChatGPT export, readable and searchable on your Mac
Chat Echo turns the ZIP from ChatGPT's Export Data feature into a searchable Mac library with conversations and included files together. Everything stays on your Mac. No ChatGPT login, no upload, no subscription. $14.99 once.
I built Chat Echo after looking at an official ChatGPT export and realizing that having the data is not the same as being able to use it. The ZIP is excellent for safekeeping, but awkward when you want to find an old conversation or see which files went with it.
Chat Echo opens that export directly and turns it into a searchable native Mac library. It keeps conversations, alternate branches, and included files together. The export never leaves your Mac, and the app does not ask for your ChatGPT login.
This first release is for macOS 14 or newer and costs $14.99 once, with no subscription. It is a direct Mac download and is not notarized, so macOS may require the standard Open Anyway step on first launch.
I would especially like to hear from people who keep ChatGPT exports: what do you usually want to find again, and what makes the current export difficult to use?

Who hunted Chat Echo?
Chat Echo was hunted by Barry. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
