Carbonless

Measure and reduce your website carbon

Scan any page with a real browser, see what it costs the planet per visit, and get a list of what to fix ordered by how much each change saves.

Hi Product Hunt,

I built Carbonless because I could not tell how much of any website carbon number was measurement and how much was assumption.

So this one measures. A real browser loads your page twice: once cold, once with a warm cache, recording every request on the wire. Repeat-visit weight comes from the actual reload, not a constant. Findings name the specific files worth fixing and what each change saves. When a site serves the crawler a bot wall, the scan fails with that reason. No rating gets published for a page nobody actually sees.

For teams there is a JSON API and a GitHub Action that fails your PR when the preview deployment crosses a carbon or page-weight budget.

The measurement approach started as a peer-reviewed IEEE conference paper (https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/10223952). The prototype stayed an MVP for a while; this beta is a ground-up rewrite of it.

Everything is free while in beta. The methodology page lists every assumption, and Carbonless measured its own site: 0.028 g per visit, rated A+.

I'll be happy to hear your suggestions :)

Who hunted Carbonless?

Carbonless was hunted by Sait Furkan Teke. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it.
