CaptureKit — Screenshot & Annotate

Screenshot, record and annotate the web — free & fully local

CaptureKit does the whole loop in one place: capture a full page, a scrolling region, a single element, any app window, or your whole screen — or record it as video. Then annotate, blur and smart-crop in a real editor. Export PNG, JPEG, PDF, SVG — or WebM, MP4 and GIF, encoded locally with WebCodecs (no ffmpeg, no upload). Smart Redact finds emails, card numbers and faces on-device; you approve every one. Exported PNGs stay re-editable. No account, no analytics, no servers.

Hi Product Hunt 👋 I built CaptureKit because I kept doing the same annoying dance: take a screenshot in one tool, open another to blur a token or draw an arrow, then find a third one when I needed a screen recording. So it's all one extension now — capture, record, edit, export — and it all runs on your device. No account, no analytics, no server of mine anywhere in the loop. It only asks for activeTab, not access to every site you visit. A few things I'm proud of: • MP4 export with no ffmpeg. MediaRecorder only writes WebM, which most tools won't take, so it transcodes with WebCodecs and muxes through an MP4 writer I wrote by hand. ffmpeg.wasm would have added ~25MB. • Video annotations with a start and end time — and a blur samples the live frame, so it keeps covering something that moves. • Exported PNGs keep your annotations in a metadata chunk, so you can reopen and re-edit a screenshot months later. • Smart Redact runs OCR and face detection locally to propose redactions. Nothing is applied without your review, and the text it reads is never stored or logged. It's free, on Chrome, Firefox and Edge. I'd love to know what you'd want next — and if there's a capture workflow that still forces you into a second tool, tell me, that's exactly the gap I'm trying to close.
