Boost

Free Mac menu bar app for memory and disk

Boost shows what's really using your Mac's memory, pauses apps instead of quitting them, and only cleans caches that rebuild themselves. Free and open source (GPL-3.0), no account, no telemetry. macOS 14+, Apple silicon and Intel.

Hi Product Hunt, I'm Karim, a software engineer in Tunisia. I built Boost because the Mac cleaners I tried wanted a subscription and mostly offered to shrink cached memory. macOS is using that memory well, and emptying it makes the Mac slower, not faster. Boost tries to show what's going on instead: - memory pressure, swap and the apps using the most, right from the menu bar - a week of history, so you can check what happened at 3pm yesterday - Pause, which freezes an app so it uses no CPU; it comes back where it was when you switch to it - disk cleanup that only lists caches the owning tool rebuilds (Homebrew, npm, Xcode DerivedData and so on) It's free, GPL-3.0, and has no network access at all. What would you want a memory app to show when there's nothing to fix?

Who hunted Boost?

Boost was hunted by Karim Masmoudi. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it.
