I built Booklex because I was frustrated with my own language learning.
I'd been learning Spanish for a while, watching shows, listening to podcasts - and felt stuck. My comprehension was okay, but my vocabulary wasn't growing. Then I realized why: when you're at B1+, your brain is good enough at guessing from context that it just skips unknown words. You understand the scene, so you never actually learn the word.
Reading native books was the obvious fix. But every time I hit an unknown word, I had to copy it, switch to a dictionary app, look it up, then find my place again. The friction completely killed the flow. I'd give up after 10 minutes.
I'm an iOS developer, so at some point I thought - why am I complaining when I can just fix this?

What surprised me most was how many people had the exact same problem - intermediate learners who understood media just fine but couldn't break through to the next level.
