book-to-skill
Books into structured skills for Claude, Copilot & Amp
book-to-skill converts any book or document into a structured, on-demand skill for Claude Code, GitHub Copilot CLI, and Amp. Instead of dumping a whole book into context, it distills the author's frameworks, mental models, decision rules, and anti-patterns into compact files the agent loads only when a topic is relevant. Extraction runs locally, it's MIT-licensed and dependency-light, and it speaks the open Agent Skills standard. 6,000+ stars and a multilingual contributor community.
Hi Product Hunt 👋
I built book-to-skill to fix something that kept bugging me: when I wanted an AI agent to actually use a book, I either dumped the whole thing into context (slow, expensive, and it forgets) or wrote a flat summary that lost all the useful structure.
So this does the opposite of a summary. It extracts the structure: named frameworks, mental models, decision rules, anti-patterns, and the author's exact terms, into per-chapter files the agent loads only when they're relevant. One book becomes a reusable skill.
It started as a weekend idea and grew to 6,000+ stars with contributors from all over the world (PRs have come in in Japanese, German, French, Chinese). The latest release made it an installable Python package, multi-format, and multi-agent (Claude Code, Copilot CLI, Amp).
It's MIT, local-first, and free. Docs: https://booktoskill.is-a.dev · Repo: https://github.com/virgiliojr94/...
Happy to answer anything. What book would you turn into a skill first?
