Blend is a web app that finds the movies two people both want to watch but haven't seen yet. Sync two or more Letterboxd profiles and get an instant list of mutually recommended new movies. It's free, easy, and fun!
I built Blend because my girlfriend and I couldn't stop wasting Friday nights on the selection process instead of actually watching anything.
We both use Letterboxd pretty seriously - between us we have a few hundred movies on our watchlists. Theoretically that should make choosing easy. In practice, manually cross-referencing two watchlists at 9pm is tedious and we kept landing on compromise picks neither of us was that excited about.
The idea is simple: Letterboxd already has all this data about what you want to watch and what you've already seen. The problem is it doesn't have a "two people" mode. Blend adds that layer - it reads both profiles and filters down to genuine overlap: movies on both watchlists that neither person has watched yet. Spotify tried this already, I figured, why can't it work for movies?
I spent a weekend on the first version and we've been using it ourselves for a few months. It now works well enough that I wanted to share it. No subscription, completely free. You install the extension, sync your Letterboxd reviews, and Blend. It's really simple.
Would love feedback from people who use Letterboxd seriously. This is my first serious web-app that I've built and I'd love to keep improving!
