Hi everyone, Emilio here. I'm a software engineer in Germany and I built Belegschmied on evenings and weekends.
Quick background for those outside Germany: since 2025 all B2B invoices here have to be electronic, meaning structured XML (the formats are called ZUGFeRD and XRechnung). Reading is already mandatory, sending becomes mandatory in 2027 and 2028. The standard advice to small businesses is to throw out their invoicing software and buy something new. I talked to a few craftsmen (electricians, painters, carpenters) and none of them wanted to migrate 15 years of customer data because the tax office changed an invoice format. On the other end I saw big companies where entire departments still write invoices in Word next to SAP, and nobody had a plan for those either.
So Belegschmied does one thing: you keep your current tools. You send us the PDF you already produce today, by upload or email, and you get a valid ZUGFeRD/XRechnung back within seconds. Incoming e-invoices get converted into something readable. Everything is archived according to German audit rules (GoBD) and can be exported to DATEV, which is what practically every German tax advisor uses.

I'd really like feedback from anyone dealing with e-invoicing mandates in other EU countries. Belgium, Poland and France are rolling out similar rules, and I'm trying to figure out if the "keep your tools" idea works outside Germany too.
