Born from a fun weekend project, with popular demand, BatteryBoi has become a full-fledged, open-source, completely free battery app giving you beautiful Dynamic Island-style notifications, and insights into your battery, and even your connected devices.
👋🏻 Hey friends, I am Joe the founder of BatteryBoi.
🙏🏻 Thanks for clicking on our Product Hunt page!
🤔 So what's the deal with this funky lil' MacOS app then? Well, let me tell you my inquisitive friend, BatteryBoi. was born from a tweet by @twhetton. He envisioned the MacOS battery indicator having a time estimate rather than just an empty, soulless bar.
💪🏻 So I set out one weekend to make this little widget one Saturday night as I am a party animal and launched it on Twitter
📈 The tweet now has 66k views, and had a significant amount of downloads from GitHub in the first few hours. I was amazed, this little widget had caused quite a stir.
🎁 It was suggested by @jaroshevskii that I make it open source. I had never worked on an open-source project before but it seemed like a great way to give back to the development community that has given me so much over the years. So I did just that under the GPL-3.0 license License.
🤑 ...And with that, it only made sense to give it away for FREE! - yes, not catch BatteryBoi is, and will always be free. But if you want to donate you can do it via the website
🚀 So what's next? Well as you can see, BatteryBoi has left the realms of being just a wee little menu bar widget, it now has a fully-fledged, dynamic island-style UI with a few more bells and whistles like customization, smart notification, and much more.
But I am most excited about the Bluetooth functionality coming very soon! This will give you quick access to all your connected devices, and bring much-needed notifications for these non-apple devices to the mac.
So be sure to share this and maybe support the project if you want to see that.
🤘 That's it, friends, that's BatteryBoi - The battery app your Mac's been dreaming about behind your back.. Try it out and let me know what you think!
