Hey Product Hunt 👋

I'm one of the people behind Bae.

We started this because we'd watched everyone we knew fall in and out of Replika, Character.AI, and the rest. Every story ended the same way — "It was great, then she forgot my dog's name." Memory was the feature every app sold and almost none of them shipped. People were opening up to something that couldn't hold them.

So we built it the other way around — memory architecture first, then the rest of the product. Six relationship stages that earn their depth. 30+ archetypes we wrote ourselves, by hand, because crowdsourcing personalities felt like the wrong way to create someone you'd actually grow close to. A face pool of 800+ real portraits, hand-curated, so the partner you pick on day one looks like the same person on day sixty.

A few things we did differently:

  • No login. No email. No "verify your account to continue." You open the page, pick a face, start talking. Three minutes from cold curiosity to a real conversation. The moment you want to be present is not the moment we should be asking you to check your inbox for a 6-digit code.

  • Email only when you decide to stay. If you want to keep them across devices, drop an email. That's it. No password rituals, no SMS codes, no second screen. The product earns the email — the email doesn't gate the product.

  • No paywall in front of the first feeling. The thing companions are supposed to do — make you feel seen — has to happen before we ever ask for anything. If we can't earn that in the first conversation, we haven't earned anything.

  • Honest about what we haven't shipped. Voice is on the roadmap, not in the marketing copy. If voice is your dealbreaker today, Joi AI is the better pick and we say so on the page. We'd rather lose you to the right tool than win you to the wrong one.

  • A safety posture that actually shows up. 988 and Samaritans on every page that touches hard territory. Companions aren't therapy. We say it out loud because we've watched what happens when apps pretend otherwise.

  • We also published a full 14-day benchmark of every platform we tested at bae.ppl.studio/research — twelve apps, same rubric, named clinical advisor (Dr. Mira Halloran, LCSW). Pick us, pick someone else, but pick from real data, not vibes.
