I'm Vaishak, and I built Backspace after repeatedly hitting the same problem while using AI coding tools.
An AI agent would make changes across multiple files. Everything looked fine. Hours later, a bug appeared.
The difficult part wasn't writing the fix.
It was answering:
• Which AI edit caused this?
• Which files belong to this task?
• What should I revert without breaking everything else?
I started building Backspace to explore that problem.
Something interesting happened after sharing it with developers.
Many told me Git already solves version history well. The bigger challenge isn't reverting changes. It's understanding why the AI made a change and identifying which edit introduced a regression.
That feedback completely changed how I'm thinking about the project.
Backspace is still early and intentionally open source because I want to build it alongside developers, not in isolation.
