Hey Product Hunt 👋 I'm Shekhar, solo founder, built this from Tokyo.
Quick story on why this exists. Back in April, Andrej Karpathy posted an idea that stuck with me. LLM knowledge bases. You dump your raw stuff into a folder, files, notes, whatever, and an LLM compiles it into a wiki, keeps it clean, and you just ask it questions. He said there's room for a real product here, not a pile of scripts.
That idea took off. But all of it was text. Nobody built it for the way designers actually think, which is in images. And a lot of people think in images. Designers, architects, anyone who photographs the thing that caught their eye. A paint color on an old door. The tiles in a quiet café. The way light hit a wall in the afternoon. It ends up scattered across your camera roll and five other places, and when you need that one thing, you can't find it.
So I built Backdrop. A visual second brain.
The part that got me while building it is that it answers questions you couldn't ask before. "what have I been drawn to lately." "have I saved anything like this." You forgot you saved half of it. Backdrop shows you your own taste back. For designers that's the good part, because inspiration is usually the stuff you already noticed and lost.
How it works, short version: you capture what you noticed and say a quick word about why, like a voice note on the picture. Backdrop takes it from there, no tagging, no folders. Then you just ask, "that little coffee shop with the nice tiles," "the green door I shot in Tokyo," and it answers. The photo, what you said about it, when you saw it, and how it connects to the rest of what you've saved.
Everything stays yours. Your shelf is private, nothing goes public.
It's live on the App Store today. iOS only for now. First 100 people get extra credits for being early.
