I'm Azizul, and I build AtlasVoice — a text-to-speech plugin for WordPress.
It started from a narrow problem: adding a "listen to this article" button to a WordPress site was either free and robotic, or good and locked behind a monthly SaaS subscription with character caps. There wasn't much in between. So the free version of AtlasVoice uses the browser's own speech engine — it works the moment you activate it, with no account, no API key, and no character limit. That version is on wordpress.org and runs on 4,000+ sites at 4.8 stars.
Pro is for when browser voices aren't enough. Rather than tie you to one vendor, it connects four: our own AtlasVoice AI engine (63 languages, no external key needed), plus Google Cloud, OpenAI and ElevenLabs if you'd rather bring your own. You can generate MP3s in bulk, let visitors download the audio, and emit audio schema so search engines and AI assistants can actually see that your content exists in audio form.
Two honest caveats. Free-tier voice quality depends on the visitor's browser and OS, so playback isn't identical across devices — if you need uniform, human-sounding audio, that's a paid AI tier, in our plugin or anyone else's. And AtlasVoice covers the audio dimension of accessibility; it is not a full WCAG compliance suite, and I'd be wary of anyone selling a single plugin as one.
I'd genuinely like to hear where the free version falls short for your sites — that's mostly what has driven the roadmap so far.
