AsaDB

A local SQL engine powered by Prolog logic

Meet AsaDB, an open-source local SQL database powered by SWI-Prolog. It combines a Prolog-backed SQL engine with persistent storage, B+Tree indexes, recovery, streaming imports, verified backups, and AsAPanel—a browser-based workspace running entirely on localhost. Create databases, run SQL, inspect tables, manage indexes and views, and keep your data on your own machine without relying on a cloud server.

Hi Product Hunt! We’re Kocoy Group, and today we’re introducing AsaDB—an open-source local SQL database experiment powered by SWI-Prolog. AsaDB started from a slightly unusual question: what would happen if a usable SQL database engine were built around logic programming? That idea grew into a Prolog-backed parser, executor, catalog, and storage engine, together with AsAPanel—a local browser workspace for creating databases, running queries, importing data, and inspecting results. The current v1.4.0 Stable release includes persistent page-backed storage, B+Tree indexes, transaction recovery, streaming imports, joins, views, multilingual UI support, and integrity-verified .asb backups. AsaDB is not trying to replace MySQL or PostgreSQL. It is an experimental database project with its own engine, interface, and identity—and it is ready for people to try, inspect, break, and improve. We would really appreciate feedback on: • Installation and first-run experience • SQL compatibility • AsAPanel usability • Import and query performance • Storage and recovery design The project is developed openly under GPL v3.0. What feature would make you interested in trying a Prolog-powered SQL database?
