I am a total art and data nerd. I have some friends who are artists, and my dad is also an artist and very interested in art history. Growing up I would go to museums and I always found art very fascinating, but I've always found it a little challenging to get into learning about it or finding out new artists and stuff like that. A lot of the more well known artists like Monet and Van Gogh are all that people really know about, so I wanted to create an easy way to explore hundreds of thousands of pieces and find what you're looking for. Artifact is a very large data project. I've taken months curating the data in the backend of this app. There's a ton of data work that has gone into creating the embedded bundle that this app and site runs on, allowing you to explore art in a way that's never been possible before!
