Hey Product Hunters!

I'm launching something that's probably a little out of place here. It's an app for tattoo artists and shops.

Why here? Why now? Two reasons. One, I love this community and have been a member for years. Two, I wanted to show off something I built. Obviously.

A little background. I'm the little brother. I'm 40-something now, but I've always looked up to my big brother, John Howie. I got where I am because I'm a nerd. Twenty-ish years ago I built John's first website for his fledgling tattoo career. That grew into a career of my own, leading marketing for a bunch of SaaS startups.

John went on to open his own shop in Philadelphia over ten years ago, Frequency Tattoo (frequencytattoo.com). If you're in the area, go see him and mention me.

Working from his shop over the years, sometimes remote, sometimes behind the front desk, I kept seeing the same thing. Shop owners deal with many problems and some pretty archaic processes. Three of them stuck with me.

  1. Artists want it their way. They don't want to be forced onto a new system. So I built Apprentice to let an artist keep using whatever they already use and still get booking requests from the shop.

  2. Shop owners worry about the client experience. Is everyone getting followed up with? So Apprentice keeps every client and message in one place. Nobody falls through the cracks.

  3. The art comes first. Always. So Apprentice handles the front-desk stuff and lets artists stay on the work.

That's Apprentice. We're live on iOS, Android, and the web. I'd love for you to take a look, and I'm here all day for questions.

Thanks for checking it out 🦊

Who hunted Apprentice?

Apprentice was hunted by Jason Howie. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
