& Breathe

A mindful extension helping you take a breath on a new tab

An extension that gives you the option to stop and breathe on each new tab. It lets you pick from different breathing techniques, set the duration of your mindful breathing, and choose different color themes.

Hello! 👋 I had the idea for a simple extension that would give you a chance to get a bit of mindfulness in the middle of your day, but I never seemed to have time to make it. With the rise of vibe coding and tools like Cursor, I figured it might be a good time to finally build this and get experience with an AI code editor.

I've been meditating for about 10 years now, and I don't think I could quite put into words just how much of an improvement it's made on my life. I will typically either meditate in the morning or the evening, but I was noticing that I wasn't providing any opportunities for myself to really practice mindfulness during my days. I wanted to have the opportunity to stop and breathe, or at least have a little reminder and calm moment in-between work and meetings. So I built this so that every new tab would be a calm experience with the opportunity to stop and breathe for a bit.

You can pick how long you'd like to breathe for, what breathing technique you'd like to use, and even what color theme you'd like to use. And your choices will be saved even if you close out of your browser. One small feature I'm particularly proud of is that regardless of what duration or technique you choose, you'll always end on an exhale. After testing it a bit I found that was definitely the most natural way to end the sessions.

Overall, the experience of building this was really easy using Cursor. I had all the functionality built out in a day. The only thing it seemed to struggle with was design and visual effects. I ultimately jumped in and just wrote that code myself, along with a few bug fixes. Outside of that, I pretty much just let Cursor and Claude take the wheel. If I were writing all of this code myself, I would have significantly simplified a lot of it, but it ultimately worked just the same.

I'd love for folks to give it a try, and hopefully it brings a bit of calm and mindfulness to your day!
