Aldine
Self-hosted LaTeX editor where every paper is a git repo
Aldine is an open-source Overleaf alternative you run on your own server. Co-authors write LaTeX together in the browser. Every project is a real git repo with branches and sync to GitHub, GitLab or Gitea. Zotero built in. Two containers, AGPL, no paid plan.
Hi, I'm Toby. I built Aldine because my co-authors want a browser tab and I want git.
Aldine is a collaborative LaTeX editor that you host yourself. It runs as two containers with docker compose, on flat files, with no database needed. Every project is a normal git repository. So you get branches in the editor, history with diffs, and push and pull to GitHub, GitLab or Gitea. A co-author who prefers VS Code can clone the repo and commit.
You can try it without an account at https://demo.aldine.dev. It resets every night, so please don't put real work there. Create a project, or drop an Overleaf ZIP on the home screen.
What is still rough: it is v0.x. There is no keystroke-level track changes. You get comments and explicit suggestions instead. CJK documents need the full TeX Live image.
I'd like to know which of your documents breaks it.

Aldine was hunted by Tobias Rahloff. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
