AirControl

Point at your Mac. Pinch to click. Fist to scroll.

A menu bar app that turns the Mac's webcam into a controller. Open hand moves the cursor, pinch clicks, fist scrolls, thumbs-up presses Enter. Apple's hand tracking runs on-device at 30 fps and nothing leaves the Mac. macOS 14+. $9.99 once until Nov 15, then $19. Two Macs.

The first version of this ran in a browser tab at 7 fps and could not tell a swipe from a wave. That was July. I threw it out and rewrote it natively on Apple's hand tracking at 30 fps, on-device.

AirControl sits in the menu bar and turns the webcam into a controller. Open hand moves the cursor, pinch clicks, hold the pinch to drag, fist to scroll, thumb out to switch desktops, pinch-hold on a text box to dictate, thumbs-up is Enter, peace sign turns it off.

Most of the work is in things you should not notice. Scroll used to be a middle-finger pinch and after an hour it hurt, so it became a fist. The cursor follows your fingertip but a drag follows your knuckle, because the tip wobbles while you grip. A One-Euro filter keeps the pointer still when your hand is still and loose when it moves. A practice window walks you through each gesture with a three second countdown.

Nothing leaves the Mac. No account, no analytics. Direct download, because the App Store sandbox blocks the accessibility APIs that move windows. Free 3-minute demo in the app, no key needed, so you know your webcam and your patience are good enough before you pay. $9.99 once until Nov 15, then $19. Two Macs, 14 day refund.

Which gesture would you actually use every day, and which one sounds like a gimmick?
