Hey Product Hunt 👋
I kept hitting the same wall: I'd need one Excel formula,
search for a tool, and land on a sign-up form. Ten free
messages a month, card on file, the usual. For a formula I
needed in the next thirty seconds.
So AIExcel has no account. Not a free tier with a login — no
login at all. Type, get the formula, close the tab. Nothing is
stored because there's nothing to store it against.
Three things I went deeper on than I expected to:
1. Argument separators. European Excel uses semicolons, not
commas. =SUM(A1,A2) is a syntax error in a German install.
Most AI tools hand you a comma formula and let you find
out. There's a toggle, and it guesses from your browser
locale on first visit.
2. Excel versions. Tell it you're on 2019 and it won't suggest
XLOOKUP — the ban list is generated from a dataset of 336
functions and their real availability, so it stays honest
as the reference grows.
3. Regex. Excel and Sheets run RE2, which has no lookbehind
and no backreferences. Most AI-written patterns are
borrowed from Python and fail silently in a cell. This one
targets RE2.
There are also 336 function reference pages — syntax, three
worked examples on one dataset, and the error codes that
function actually throws.
What it doesn't do: it can't see your spreadsheet. No uploads,
no dashboards. You describe your columns; it writes the
formula. And like every LLM tool it's sometimes confidently
wrong, which is why every answer ends with what will break it.
