Hey Product Hunt 👋 I kept losing good answers. Not the chats themselves — those are all still there. But the one paragraph that actually solved the problem is always three scrolls up, in a tab I'm about to close, in one of six different assistants. And when I did try to save it, copy-paste ate it: headings flattened, code fences broke apart, tables turned into runs of text, and every citation just... disappeared. So I built the boring version of the fix. AI Chat Exporter is a Chrome extension that puts one panel on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek and Perplexity. You tick the turns you want — not the whole thread, the turns — and it writes them out as a real document: a PDF with working page numbers and a table of contents, a Word file with actual headings, Markdown that drops straight into Obsidian, or JSONL if you're feeding a pipeline. Ten formats total. The part I care most about: 🧠 It keeps what usually gets lost. Reasoning and extended thinking, tool call steps, web search sources, artifacts and canvas documents, equations, code blocks, tables. Each one is a toggle, so you decide what rides along. 🔒 Everything except PDF is generated inside your browser. No upload step. The local archive is indexed on your machine and searchable across all six assistants at once — uninstall the extension and it's gone with it. PDF is the one exception, because selectable text and a real table of contents need an actual print pipeline: the sanitised page goes to our renderer, lives in memory for the render, streams back, and is discarded. Never written to disk, never to a database. 🛡️ Redaction runs before the file is written, not after — emails, phone numbers, card numbers, API keys, plus your own patterns. It's free and you don't need an account to use it. Every local format is unmetered on the free tier. An account only exists for the things that genuinely need a server: one-click PDF, and read-only share links. Why I actually built it: I spend eight to ten hours a day talking to these assistants, usually with four or five windows open at once. They've solved one problem after another for me, and every so often an answer comes back that's genuinely better than anything I would have written myself. A few days later I went looking for one of those. I scrolled for an hour and never found it. That was the whole trigger — if an answer is good enough that I'll want it again, or good enough that I want to hand it to someone else, it shouldn't be living in a tab I'm one click away from closing.
