Hey PH, John here. This is my fourth startup. Two of the last three got acquired, one taught me a lot the hard way.
I kept running into the same thing with every brand I talked to: they're pouring money into ads but can't tell you how much of it actually turned into sales. Everyone's staring at clicks and impressions. Meanwhile they've got one person flipping between Google, Meta, and TikTok all day, and none of those platforms are really on the brand's side — they each want more of the budget for themselves.
And then there's the new thing nobody's ready for: people are literally asking ChatGPT what to buy now. If your products aren't in those answers, you're just invisible there.
So we built Aeris. The reason I think we can actually pull this off is kind of unusual. We didn't start as an AI company looking for data to train on. We spent years running our own consumer shopping services first — that's where the $200M+ in sales and 20M+ shoppers come from. So the data Aeris runs on is real buying behavior we own, not some third-party list everyone else also rents.
Honestly the product changed a lot along the way. I thought we were building a smarter ad optimizer. The thing that actually mattered was that Aeris doesn't care which channel wins — it just moves the money to whatever's converting. Once we leaned into that, it clicked.
