Actual Plan

Calm, roadmap-first project planning for small teams

Actual Plan keeps roadmaps, tasks, owners, dates, dependencies, and team updates in one calm workspace. It is smaller than an enterprise tracker, more durable than a spreadsheet, and free to try on one real project.

Top comment

Actual Plan was built to help teams I was working with get away from running their businesses in a Google Sheet. They knew they wanted something better, but they didn’t have the experience to know what “better” looked like. Linear and Jira were too expensive and too enterprise-focused.

I work with small and medium-sized education startups. Some have a lot of interns, and many have a lot going on beyond software, including grants, marketing, legal, and sales. They were managing it all in Notion, Google Sheets, and Google Docs. The price of a single seat on the other platforms was most of their monthly budget. Google Docs and Sheets are free.

Having spent decades working with Gantt charts and Kanban boards—and having always disliked what Scrum did to creativity and the passion for building—I knew I wanted an opinionated tool that works for both the builder and the organizer. I also wanted something that doesn’t cost so much that it encourages the payer to buy the minimum number of seats or share login credentials.

I knew we could do better, so I built Actual Plan alongside people who use it every day.
