Accent Letters for VS Code

682 accented letters, without leaving your editor

Two things an editor is oddly bad at. Typing á é í ó ú, ñ ü ç, ø å æ, ß, ł ż or ă ș ț when your keyboard has no key for them. A searchable picker over 682 accented letters in 55 languages, inserted at every cursor. Search by the letter, by language, by code point, or by what the mark is called — "two dots" finds ä ë ï ö ü. And taking accents back out, which editors cannot do at all: Crème brûlée in São Paulo becomes Creme brulee in Sao Paulo. Plus a URL-slug command. Offline. No telemetry.

I kept leaving my editor to fetch a single character. Writing about languages means typing ñ, ő, ș, ế — and the fix is always the same detour: open a browser, search, copy, come back. Then the opposite problem: pasting a name into a slug or an identifier and having to strip the accents by hand, which editors cannot do at all. So: a picker over 682 accented letters across 55 languages, and a Remove Accents command. The search is the part I'm happiest with — you can look a letter up by what the mark is called rather than its Unicode name. "two dots" finds ä ë ï ö ü, "hacek" finds č š ž, "spanish" finds the seven Spanish ones. Two things I'd flag honestly: Removing accents is not always safe. In Spanish, año becomes ano — a different word. In German, ü is traditionally ue, not u. In Turkish, dotless ı and dotted i are separate letters. The extension does what you ask; the judgement stays yours. And it's offline. No account, no telemetry, no network calls of any kind — the 682 letters ship inside it, generated from Unicode 16 and CLDR 48, the same data behind the website and the apps. Works in Cursor and Windsurf too. Happy to answer anything.
