A Markdown editor without the bloat
Markdown without the clutter.
Prosedown is a fast, lightweight Markdown editor for Windows. Write in Styled mode and see headings, lists, tables and links formatted as you type, just like a word processor, or flip to Code mode to edit the raw Markdown. Open multiple documents in tabs, work fully offline, and switch to dark mode when you like. When you're done, export to PDF or a real Word document in one click. Try it free for 14 days, then pay $4.99 once. No subscription, and it's yours forever.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
I'm Frank, and I built Prosedown.
Why I built it: I work with Markdown files all the time, especially when working on designing software with AI. Most of the time I just want to open one, read it properly formatted, make a quick edit and close it. Yet every Markdown app I tried wanted more from me: set up a vault, sign in, sync to their cloud, install plugins, learn a new workflow. Or it was an Electron app that bundles a whole browser just to show a text file.
I wanted the Markdown equivalent of Notepad: double-click a .md file and it just opens.
What it does: Documents open in Styled mode, formatted like a word processor, and you can edit right on the page. Flip to Code mode whenever you want the raw Markdown. Both views stay in sync. You get tabs for multiple files, a recent-files list and dark mode, and that's about it, on purpose.
What it doesn't do: There are no accounts, no cloud, no vaults and no plugin ecosystem. Your files stay plain .md files wherever you keep them. It works fully offline and uses the system's built-in web view instead of shipping its own browser engine.
How it evolved: It started as MarkdownMaster, a tool I built for myself. Every feature request got the same test: does this help me view or edit a Markdown file, or is it bloat? A few made the cut, like dark mode, live word counts and export to PDF or Word for when you need to share a file. Most didn't. I renamed it Prosedown along the way.
It's 14 days free, then $4.99 once. No subscription.
I'd love your feedback. What's the one thing your current Markdown tool does that you wish it didn't? And what's missing that would actually earn its place?
