I built 100kb.in because of a simple realization: the web utilities we use daily like PDF compressors and image tools are fundamentally broken when it comes to privacy. Why are we still uploading sensitive IDs, signatures, and private documents to external, third-party cloud servers just to shrink a file size or format an image? I wanted a tool that respected user data completely.
Most "free" converters either lock basic editing behind an aggressive paywall, output a flat, screenshot wrapped in a document, or require heavy data transfers. 100kb.in gives you secure, lightning-fast processing right inside your browser. It solves the friction of strict, portal-mandated file size limitations without sacrificing data security. Zero data ever leaves your device.
The biggest technical hurdle was making this 100% offline-capable and crash-resistant. Initially, the architecture relied on external modules and dynamic server dependencies for heavy image encoding, which slowed things down and introduced network failure vectors.
We completely pivoted the core engine to parse files locally and handle pixel operations via highly optimized, native 2D Canvas APIs. This evolution removed all network latency, bypassed strict Content Security Policies (CSP), and unlocked features like iterative target-size matching and precise baseline document flows all running entirely within the browser's client sandbox.
